History of Partnership

SPC’s relationship with the ECCB, Diaconie, and the Protestant Theological Faculty began in October 1983 with the visit of a prominent Czech pastor and accelerated after the fall of communism. Over the past three decades, SPC has engaged with these organizations by learning from one another, walking together in faith, and supporting the Diakonie to provide social services to the elderly, disabled, and marginalized populations. In 2011, SPC hosted a delegation of 12 directors from Diakonie centers who visited social services agencies in southwestern Pennsylvania, including the Center for Hope, the YMCA, and Partners for Quality.

Rev. Sarah Bird, Sandy Cooper, and Deborah Murdoch traveled to the Czech Republic in April 2016 to participate a Partnership Conference, Sharing Together: Our Mission in a Secular Society, organized by the American Working Group of the ECCB and the PC USA Czech Mission Network. They also visited the ECCB congregation in Přerov where Marek Zikmond is serving as the minister. Rev. Marek Zikmond, together with his wife Marta and daughter Jana, spent 2 months at SPC 2007.

SPC looks forward to continuing to fostering partnerships in the Czech Republic. Members from Sewickley Presbyterian Church will travel to the Czech Republic for a visit with the Diaconia and the ECCB Prerov congregation from June 15-25, 2018.
